House cooling methods: Get to know the different AC types

The eternal quest for a better lifestyle has resulted in many modern inventions, including air conditioner. Air Conditioner is the technology that allows us to modify air temperature to create more comfortable settings in our houses. And that is why air Conditioners are some of the most popular appliances in the world and why there are many companies manufacturing various AC types.

Essentially, an air conditioner is an appliance that alters the properties of air. It can increase or decrease the temperature of the air in the room as needed. Plus, it also provides a fresh air zone by filtering outside pollutants. And that is why air conditioners have become these very successful appliances since day one.

When the house appliance became a huge success, companies started making diverse AC types, to accommodate the growing demand and the growing market.

Nowadays, air conditioners have become a necessity in almost every house. And due to the presence of so many various types, choosing one to install in any space can be a challenging task. So here is a guide that will help you choose. Let’s take a look at the difference AC types.

Wall air conditioner

Wall air conditioner

One of the most popular AC types, you can find wall air conditioners in millions of homes around the world today. It is compact, easy to install and has a very low noise level which makes it perfect for cozy living spaces such as living rooms and bedrooms. Keep in mind that each unit serves one room, you can get a larger unit for large rooms but it cannot serve more than one room.

It is also largely available, many companies manufacture this make and model and it comes in numerous sizes to suit a lot of spaces.

Wall Air conditioners function in the same way as window air conditioners, which means that they exhaust heat and humidity from the room to the outside and bring in fresh air.

Ceiling air conditioner

Ceiling air conditioners are generally used in large spaces such as offices, restaurants and schools. The bulk of the unit is usually above the ceiling line and the only visible part is the decorative lower facing.

It is very popular in large spaces as it provides an excellent airflow in large areas. This is because of the air being distributed in 4 directions. Besides, the cooling capacity of a single ceiling air conditioner can match that of 3 or 4 wall mounted units.

The condenser of the ceiling air conditioning unit is situated outside the building. This means that they make absolutely no noise in the room.

 Floor mounted air conditioner

Floor mounted air conditioners or column air conditioners are large, high-capacity units used for cooling larger rooms.

Many prefer opting for column air conditioners for cooling large spaces if they do not want to redecorate the whole area as they are easier to install than ceiling air conditioners. Furthermore, because they are complete units, with no outside exhaust system, they can be installed in rooms without windows.

Additionally, because they produce a strong flow of cool air they can be used in areas where the doors are frequently opened, such as receptions, lobbies and waiting areas.

Portable air conditioner

Portable air conditioner

Portable air conditioners do not require any installation, but some of them come with a flexible air pipe which should be routed through a window or an opening in the wall to discharge hot air.

Many people like portable air conditioners because they do not require any installation and also because they are often cheaper than other AC types.

However, portable air conditioners are a bit noisy and limited in capacity.  That is because the compressor is located inside the unit rather than in an external element like other types. And because everything is contained in the unit, some units require you to empty the water drawer, where condensation gathers, every couple of hours.

How do I choose?

How do I choose?

Now that you have taken a look at the different types you need to consider one more thing: the cooling capacity of the unit you require.

All types come in various capacities, and deciding what you need depends largely on the space you have. Do you need something easy to install? Or that needs no installation at all? Do you need to cool a very large space? These are some questions that you need to answer before you choose an air conditioner or several air conditioners for your house.
